Kingdom of Crystallos– City of Nivia – Royal Palace
The Princess
of Crystallos stood by the window of her study and looked out into the square yard
within her castle’s walls, a yard that was now, in the middle of winter, covered
in snow and ice. But then, hers was one of the continents’ most northern countries
and so she had lived her life in a place where snow and ice were the constant weather
in the land. To her, the never-ending winter was home. However,
this did not mean that she did not enjoy the journeys to other, allied kingdoms
for important events. She enjoyed to take walks without having to wear thick, fur-lined
cloaks whenever her country’s interests send her into the southern countries.
»Your Royal Highness,«
one of her servants addressed her, shaking her out of her thoughts that had travelled
back into the past and further south, to the wedding she had attended in the past
summer, the wedding that she had been able to whole-heartedly enjoy because it had
been before her father’s advisors had informed her that a marriage had been arranged
for her.
(Once in a
while, she wished that her father was able to tell her about these things himself
instead of sending his advisors to break news of this sort to her.)
»Yes?« she asked,
her eyes stilled trained on the carriages down in the yard that bore the royal crest
of Cognitio. The delegation that had arrived on this snowy day was the
one accompanying the crown princess of the country rather than the princess’ husband-to-be
and she was strangely grateful for this fact because this way, she would have more
time to grow accustomed to the future of being married.
»Her Royal Highness, the crown princess of Cognitio,
has arrived and your presence is required in the throne room,«
the servant said before he bowed and vanished in the shadows of the large castle,
giving the princess one last moment to herself,
to breathe and to adjust her clothes and her jewellery before making her way to
the large hall. She was not too keen on meeting her future sister-in-law but she
was not going to let this show. Maintaining a mask was something she had learned
when she had been a mere child and once she had learned it she had never forgotten
about it again.
Smiling
ever so slightly (ever so calculating), she turned the last corner and stepped into
the room, just when the herald announced the arrival of the other princess.
Princess
Ur of Crystallos was nothing but a resourceful woman and whatever scheme Cognitio
was pursuing by sending the slightly younger woman to the cold country before anyone
else, she would figure it out and ensure that it failed.
For no
one took advantage of Crystallos’ hospitality and lived to tell the tale.
»Her Royal Highness,
Crown Princess Sayla of Cognitio,« the herald announced and Ur stood straight in front of
her throne, her crown gleaming in the candles’ light.

Cognitio was a kingdom in the north, where this princess was the heir to the current monarchy. Her radiance was welcome in many lands as a sign of fresh air, like the climate in her nation; whilst it was a northern realm like Crystallos, the snow and the winter was not as harsh as the other country, which caused her to envelop herself in a large fur coat in a form of protection.
Her own lands were famous for their beautiful mountains, and of course, beautiful women, which was why the female had gained a rather large amount of popularity among the male dwellers of her nation, however, she disliked being known for her beauty, and was rather more content with being recognised for her abilities as a tactician. The female gave respect where it was due, but on the other hand, she disliked the “lady” her brother was set to marry, and was none too keen to meet her otherwise.
The female’s pale skin glistened in comparison to the vast snowfall, and once inside shelter, which took the form of the castle walls, retrieved her crown from her handmaiden and placed it atop her head. She disliked wearing her adornment on her travels due to the unwanted attention it brought, and as a consequence of that, an unwanted waste of time. Her crown was silver, like her attire which she graced Crystallos with upon her arrival, and also much like the white landscape surrounding the princess. People in service at the castle directed her to her destination – the throne room; they paid her respect in the form of a bow as she walked past, to which she responded by courtesying.
Whilst not a warrior like some princesses or her brother, the female was a prodigal tactician who had been expected to lead her country into prosperity upon her entry to the throne, and her role as a Queen. She was a woman who loved her brother immensely; their bond as siblings was extremely strong; their relationship was unbreakable, which was why the princess was none to keen to hear that her brother could possibly be leaving her nation to be married to that womanof all people.
Still, respect had to be payed to the country she was visiting. Entering the throne room after the herald introduced her, a glistening radiance entered the room as she walked in. She met eye to eye with her future sister-in-law, and forced a smile, which may have been none too obvious to the latter. The female took the hands of the other princess, sending a grin to Ur as she did so.
“–So, you are to be my new sister then? ‘Tis a pleasure to finally meet you; the rulers of our humble kingdom speak highly of you, Princess Ur~!”
